168 Business Directories For Local Business Rankings

If you are doing SEO for a client, or you are doing the marketing yourself, there are a few things you must know that will help you rank high. 
 
The ultimate goal for local business owners and SEO companies big or small is to see a local business website reach the first page of google places in the 7 pack or the A-G listings. Now days Google is mostly doing blended search results.
 
That’s where the google places listings are spread throughout the page and kinda blended in.  You can tell the difference still because you can see the little red pointer.
 
 

Either way the process to get the site in the top 1-5 spot for your choosen keywords is the same. Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks. The best way to get backlinks for your local business is to get business citations. A citation is a listing on any site that has a businesses exact name, address, phone number, and website url (make the url anchored if possible).  Make as many of these listings for the business you are promoting and this will help your google places, bing local and yahoo local listings rise in rankings.

Make a spreadsheet of all the links you make and keep a record of this. Ping every link that you make.  Also bookmark and rss.

Here is the strategy that I use:

The first thing i do is make a facebook page, twitter account, and youtube channel for my clients.  I make 2 videos that are included in the either of the packages I offer my clients.  In some of the listings you are able to link a facebook account and twitter account.  After you make the listing you can post a link to the listing on facebook and twitter with the click of a button.  The youtube channel gives a great citation link.  Especially in the eyes of google.  Google owns youtube so they favor their own business citations. The only dofollow backlink that youtube offers is on the channel page where it says “Website” in your profile.

I make listings to all the sites below.  Some of them allow blog posts and multiple outbound links.  At any chance I get I make a linkwheel to the other business citations (listings) that I have already made.  I don’t do it the same everytime I don’t like to leave footprints.  I try to make as natural as possible.  I use about 5-10 keywords for the anchor text links.  About 1-3 of the kewords I use 60 % of the time.  These are the main keywords for the business.   Make the sites as rich as you can.  Multiple photos and videos.  This will help the actual listing rank higher on its own directory and also in the eyes of google you will gain more trust.
